"My life revolves around the Steelers" - Don Love
I met Don Love in 2007. He was waiting tables at an Italian restaurant in a suburb outside of Montreal. When Don found out I was from Pittsburgh, he invited me into his den.
This video takes place in this den, or the room Don says is "dedicated to my Steelers." Surrounded by black and gold memorabilia, books, and numbered jerseys he's collected and worn since high school, Don describes his love affair with the team and my hometown.
In recounting a series of wins and losses over the years, his emotional experiences range from ecstasy to emptiness. Don tells about the love and unexplainable bond between fans, his first visit to the new stadium in Pittsburgh, his failed marriage to someone who didn't understand his obsession, and the difficulty of waiting tables or "performing when you don't feel like it." Through it all, Don has stayed true to his Steelers.
