Residence (2001-2004) is a series of photographs of individual living quarters at the YWCA residence hall for women in downtown Brooklyn. For three years I participated in the life of this community, forming relationships with several residents and photographing their personal spaces.
These intimate photographs depict the careful detail of room interiors, while implying a larger narrative about the women who live there but who are not present in the images themselves.
